About the Role
Saint Vincent Academy, a Catholic college preparatory school dedicated to academic excellence, leadership, and the development of young women, is seeking a dynamic and organized professional to serve as our Athletic Director. This position also includes responsibilities as a Physical Education and Driver’s Education Teacher. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, a commitment to student wellness and athletic development, and the ability to foster a positive and competitive athletic culture rooted in sportsmanship and integrity.
Athletic Director/ Physical Education & Driver’s Education Teacher
Position Overview
The Athletic Director oversees and manages all aspects of the school’s athletic programs while supporting the mission and values of Saint Vincent Academy. The role includes supervising athletic operations, ensuring compliance with league and state regulations, supporting student-athletes and coaches, and promoting a safe and enriching athletic environment. In addition, the candidate will teach Physical Education and Driver’s Education courses.
Athletic Director Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Oversight
Supervise all athletic programs and coaching staff.
Train, mentor, and evaluate coaches while ensuring all required certifications and professional development are current.
Evaluate opportunities to expand athletic offerings and student participation.
Develop and maintain annual schedules for all athletic teams and seasons.
Scheduling & Event Coordination
Coordinate and schedule games, tournaments, practices, officials, transportation, and facilities.
Communicate with opposing athletic directors and assigners regarding scheduling and changes.
Reschedule contests due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
Work home athletic events, including scoreboard operation, setup, breakdown, crowd management, and team escorting.
Attend away games when necessary.
Drive school van as needed
Compliance & Student Eligibility
Ensure compliance with all district, league, and New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association regulations.
Monitor athlete eligibility, physical examinations, academic standing, and required paperwork.
Support transfer students through eligibility procedures and required timelines.
Monitor student-athletes participating in multiple sports to ensure appropriate rest and wellness.
Equipment & Uniform Management
Oversee athletic equipment and uniform inventory.
Coordinate distribution, collection, rental, and replacement of uniforms and equipment.
Submit requests for new equipment and uniforms as needed.
Student Support & Community Engagement
Attend athletic events, including evenings and weekends, to support and recognize student-athletes.
Coordinate Senior Day celebrations and athletic recognition events throughout the year.
Communicate effectively with students, families, faculty, administration, and community partners.
Represent Saint Vincent Academy at conference meetings, league events, and annual athletic association meetings.
Safety & Risk Management
Maintain safety procedures and injury protocols for all athletic programs.
Promote safe athletic participation and appropriate risk management practices.
Physical Education Teacher Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging Physical Education instruction focused on wellness, fitness, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles.
Teach skills related to sports, movement, and lifelong fitness habits.
Assess student participation, effort, and skill development.
Ensure safe use of equipment, locker rooms, and athletic facilities.
Incorporate health and injury prevention topics into instruction.
Communicate student progress with families.
Driver’s Education Teacher Responsibilities
Provide classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction in safe and responsible driving practices.
Teach traffic laws, road signs, defensive driving, and driver safety.
Prepare students for written and road examinations.
Maintain driving logs and required documentation.
Ensure instructional vehicles are properly maintained, insured, and safe.
Communicate student progress and concerns with parents/guardians.
Athletic Seasons
Fall Sports: Mid-August through late October
Winter Sports: Thanksgiving through late February
Spring Sports: Mid-March through early June
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
Experience in athletic administration, coaching, and/or physical education instruction preferred.
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Knowledge of athletic compliance, scheduling, and event management.
Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, faculty, and community partners.
Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.
Appropriate teaching certification(s) required or eligibility to obtain certification.
