Massachusetts.Position Overview

The assistant football coach is responsible for assisting the head
football coach in running an NCAA Division I (FCS) football program
by recruiting academically qualified prospective students-athletes,
developing and implementing training sessions, practices and game
plans, educating and coaching student-athletes, and supporting
student-athletes in their personal, academic and athletic
development at Merrimack College. This full-time position reports
directly to the head football coach and must act in accordance with
NCAA Division I (FCS), Merrimack’s Athletic Member Conference(s)
and Merrimack College rules, regulations and policies.

Position Responsibilities:

Assist in running the offensive side of the program at the
direction of the head football coach.
Direct and Plan in the recruitment of high-quality
student-athletes, including managing a recruiting area and
involvement in on-campus visits.
Plan official and un-official visits for prospective student
athletes and families.
Participate in the development of student-athletes, personally,
academically and athletically.
Assist in coaching a position group; help plan and run training
sessions and practices.
Scout opposing teams and assist in the breakdown of video for
teaching purposes and game planning.
Attend coach and student-athlete meetings.
Help monitor the academic progress of student-athletes.
Represent the program with the highest level of
professionalism, sportsmanship and integrity.
Help foster and maintain a culture that demonstrates a
commitment to NCAA rules compliance and institutional
policies.
Help foster and maintain a culture that demonstrates a
commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as well as trust and
mutual respect.
Participate in departmental activities including staff
meetings, compliance education, diversity, equity and inclusion
training, guest speakers and other events/meetings.
Fulfill other specific areas of responsibility related to the
program as assigned by the head football coach.

Position Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
1-2 years of previous playing and/or coaching experience
Ability to work non-traditional hours and a flexible
schedule
Knowledge of NCAA rules and intercollegiate athletics
Demonstrated recruiting skills and knowledge
Knowledge of video editing and production
Commitment to supporting the academic success and overall
well-being of student-athletes
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills including the ability to
prioritize and complete tasks by established deadlines

Work Location

This is an on-campus position as employees are essential in order
