Job Overview
University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) is seeking an experienced individual to lead and expand our Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field program as the head coach. The successful head coach must be able to articulate a vision to develop the program to compete for conference track & field championships while maintaining its spot among the top cross country programs in the GLVC. Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Teach and instruct advanced level skills, techniques, and game strategies inherent in the highest level of competitive play; developing UIS cross country and track & field student-athletes to successful competitive achievements.
  • Recruit highly successful cross country and track & field student-athletes who are both physically and academically talented, who represent UIS and Department of Athletics with good character, and who strive to graduate from UIS.
  • Responsible for scheduling, organizing, and conducting practices/competitions including team travel.
  • Responsible for the strategic vision for success and administration of UIS men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs including budgeting, strategic planning, organizing, and reconciling cross country and track & field accounts to ensure expenditures compliant with budget.
  • Responsible for fundraising, marketing, promotion, and alumni and community engagement of UIS cross country and track & field and Department of Athletics at UIS.
  • Identify, manage, mentor, and oversee ethical and talented UIS cross country and track & field assistant coaching staff.
  • Collaborate with athletic training staff, academic support personnel, strength and conditioning, compliance staff, and other campus personnel to enhance and support UIS cross country and track & field student-athlete experience.
  • Accountable for compliance with all NCAA Division II and Great Lakes Valley Conference rules; including submission of all compliance forms, adherence to all compliance policies and procedures, and attendance of mandatory NCAA rules education sessions.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Proven cross country or track coaching experience for a minimum of three years at the collegiate level.
  • An understanding of NCAA Division II regulations.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting and developing student-athletes.
