Job Overview
The Head Cross Country Coach will be responsible for the overall management and direction of the high school cross country program. This includes developing and implementing training programs, fostering a positive and supportive team environment, and promoting the values of sportsmanship and dedication. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of cross country training principles, and a commitment to the academic and personal growth of student-athletes.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive training programs that focus on individual and team improvement.
- Organize and conduct practices, meets, and team activities.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to student-athletes, emphasizing sportsmanship, teamwork, and character development.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all team members.
- Manage team equipment and inventory.
- Coordinate team travel and logistics.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, school administration, and the community.
- Recruit and retain student-athletes for the cross country program.
- Adhere to all South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA) and district policies and procedures.
- Previous coaching experience at the high school level or higher preferred.
- Strong knowledge of cross country training principles and techniques.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
- Knowledge of SDHSAA rules and regulations.
- Demonstrated commitment to the academic and personal development of student-athletes.
- Ability to pass a background check.
