Job Overview
The School of Music at Western Carolina University seeks a dynamic Assistant Director of Athletic Bands to help facilitate the direction and organization of the university athletic band program, including the nationally renowned Sudler award winning Pride of the Mountains Marching Band and pep bands. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possession of an earned master’s degree in wind conducting or music education.
  • At least three years of experience teaching in public school band programs or university band programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in the creative design aspects of marching band, such as drill design, musical arranging, color guard, and/or choreography.
  • Expertise as a percussion specialist.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven effectiveness in student recruitment and organizational leadership within a band program.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and related administrative processes for band programs.
  • Proficiency in writing and arranging music for marching and athletic bands.
  • Experience using Pyware Drill Design Software.
  • Capability to teach music education courses, such as percussion pedagogy and supervising student teachers.
