Job Overview
The Head Coach of the Reading Royals is responsible for leading all on-ice and off-ice aspects of the team’s performance. This includes developing team strategy, overseeing player development, managing the coaching staff, and cultivating a high-performance culture that aligns with the organization’s values and goals. The Head Coach plays a key leadership role in creating a competitive, disciplined, and team-oriented environment while working closely with the General Manager and Hockey Operations staff.
Responsibilities:

Develop and implement game strategies, systems, and practice plans that enhance team performance.

Lead all team practices, meetings, and games throughout the season, including pre-season, regular season, and playoffs.

Oversee day-to-day player development, including skill training, conditioning, and mentoring.

Evaluate individual and team performance using video analysis and statistical tools.

Collaborate with the General Manager on roster decisions, trades, call-ups, and assignments.

Manage and direct assistant coaches, trainers, and support staff to ensure alignment and accountability.

Foster a professional, positive, and respectful locker room and team culture.

Represent the Reading Royals organization with professionalism in media engagements, community appearances, and team events.

Work in close coordination with the NHL and AHL affiliates to ensure player readiness and organizational consistency.

Promote injury prevention, conditioning, and player well-being through collaboration with medical and training staff.

Proven coaching experience at the professional, collegiate, or high-level junior hockey level.

Extensive knowledge of hockey tactics, systems, and player development.

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to manage and motivate a diverse group of athletes and staff.

Experience with video analysis and modern coaching technologies.

Commitment to continuous improvement, accountability, and team success.

USA Hockey or equivalent coaching certification preferred.

Must pass a background check and adhere to all league and team conduct standards.
