Job Overview
The head women’s basketball coach reports to the vice president for athletics (or associate athletics director) and provides coaching expertise, leadership, management and administration of all aspects of a competitive NCAA program. This position ensures a positive and beneficial intercollegiate experience for student-athletes. The successful candidate will place the highest priority on academic integrity and a commitment to student-athlete success in both athletics and the classroom.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, organization and supervision for all team practices and competitions.
- Oversee and evaluate assistant coaches, student assistants, graduate assistant coaches and volunteers in conjunction with the sport supervisor.
- Organize and implement a successful recruiting program that attracts academically and athletically gifted prospects, with a strong commitment to retention, degree completion and academic success.
- Manage and award athletic scholarship funds in coordination with the vice president for athletics and the director of NCAA compliance, adhering to university and NCAA guidelines.
- Conduct all aspects of the program in accordance with NCAA rules, university policies and the department’s policy manual.
- Promote an atmosphere of sportsmanship, professionalism and respect among coaches and student-athletes.
- Prioritize student-athlete safety and welfare in all aspects of the program.
- Manage team operations within the parameters of the annual budget and review all budget requests and fiscal needs.
- Schedule team travel, practices and competitions in accordance with university policies, conference guidelines and NCAA bylaws.
- Monitor and review student-athlete eligibility to ensure full compliance with governing rules and regulations.
- Minimum of three years of successful NCAA coaching experience preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of NCAA athletics required.
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills; must be comfortable working in a flexible, team-oriented atmosphere with a positive attitude and sense of humor.
