Job Overview
The Director of Athletics is a full-time staff member who serves on the administrative team and reports directly to the Principal. This position is responsible for developing, managing and supervising every aspect of the School's Athletics Program. The Director of Athletics is responsible for leading and managing the Athletics Program in a manner consistent with the mission and philosophy of The John Carroll School. The Director of Athletics will promote the dignity of the human person, authentic encounters and accompaniment across all relationships in the Athletics Department. T
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Recruit, retain and supervise outstanding coaches who are aligned with The John Carroll School’s vision and mission.
- Set and maintain standards of excellence and accountability within Athletics.
- Oversee observations and annual evaluations of coaches.
- Partner with the School’s Assistant Principals and Instructional Coach to coordinate professional development for all coaches that mirrors the teachers’ professional development.
- Develop a comprehensive orientation and formation program for all coaches, emphasizing leadership, professionalism and mission-focused pedagogy development.
- Assist coaches in scheduling games for school athletics teams; oversee travel and transportation for away competitions.
- Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications to highlight Athletics achievements, maintain accurate schedules and promote Athletics culture online.
- Partner with the Admissions Office to attract prospective student-athletes and grow The John Carroll School Athletics brand.
Qualifications:
- Commitment to the Catholic identity and mission of The John Carroll School and the physical, mental and spiritual formation of students through athletics.
- Bachelor's degree in physical education, athletic administration or a related field; master's degree preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in athletic administration/leadership.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to engage and lead parent volunteers, coaches and student-athletes.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends, including attendance at games and school events.
- Experience with Veracross (or similar school management software) is required.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a broad range of constituencies.
