Job Overview

Under the direction of the Head Men's Basketball Coach, the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach will aid with on court training, competition preparation, and in-game coaching of the Men's Basketball Team, but is not a designated off-campus recruiter. In addition, the incumbent will assist with the day-to-day operations of the program. This position will also operate under university regulations and America East Conference & NCAA bylaws.

Essential Functions:

  1. Assists in organizing, preparing and conducting individual and team practices, training, and competition preparation.
  2. Assist with the recruitment of prospective student-athletes in accordance with America East & NCAA regulations. However, this position is not a designated off campus recruiter.
  3. Assist in monitoring student-athletes' academic progress.
  4. Assist with player development. Under supervision of the Head Coach, develop training methods to improve the overall skill development of players both in/out of season.
  5. Assist in coordinating training and practice sessions, ensuring that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained.
  6. Assist with game scouting of opponents and preparation of game plan.
  7. Promote a program culture of academic success and degree progress, and support The Learning Center's initiatives in monitoring and advising the program's student-athletes.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree required.
  2. A minimum of two years' coaching experience at the high school/competitive club/college level or collegiate playing experience.
  3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students required.
  4. Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in area of sporting specialty.
  5. Knowledge of applicable team or individual sport and its playing rule.
  6. Must possess the ability to foster a cooperative environment.
  7. Must be able to organize and coordinate.
  8. Must have knowledge of NCAA rules.
  9. Must have the ability to understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
