Job Overview
Under the direction of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach/Instructor will be responsible for designing skill development programs for student-athletes and assisting in the oversight of all aspects of the NCAA Division I Baseball program. This position will build and maintain positive working relationships with student-athletes,
coaches, and staff, while striving for excellence in all aspects of the program, and representing the University, the Department of Athletics, and the baseball program with the highest professional and ethical behavior. In the absence of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach/Instructor will have the responsibility to act and function as the head coach.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Teach, coach, mentor and inspire student athletes up through graduation.
- Attend all competitions and practices unless directed to other tasks by the head coach and is responsible for teaching student-athletes proper skills and skill development in their sport.
- Utilize Trackman and other data/analytics to assist student-athletes in their athletic development.
- Provide instruction in physical health, nutrition and safety.
- Provide instruction in team concepts and sports etiquette. Treat student-athletes, colleagues, and opponents with respect, and represent Saint Joseph’s with integrity.
- Develop successful recruitment strategies; follow up on prospective students, research and target high schools and athletic camps/showcases/tournaments as sources for potential student-athletes.
- Plan, develop and teach well-organized sessions and present other learning opportunities for students in accordance with departmental goals and objectives. Maintain competency and knowledge in the academic curriculum and what the student-athletes are responsible for throughout the semester and hold student-athletes accountable for meeting criteria.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a combination of 3 years of college or professional coaching experience, or at least 2 years of professional playing experience. Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to NCAA and member conference rules and regulations.
- Administrative skills such as prioritization, organization, and budgeting are needed.
- Must be self-directed and motivated and be able to work independently and work under pressure.
- A valid driver’s license and ability to meet standards of the College’s current Motor Vehicle Policy are required
- Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification, must be maintained.
- The successful candidate will be subject to pre-placement physical exam, motor vehicle record check, and criminal background check.
- Successful background check clearances to include a PA Criminal Records Check, FBI Fingerprinting Check and PA Child Abuse Clearance Check.
