Pay Range
Compensation for this position is expected to range between
$500,000.00 and $800,000.00 per year, in alignment with what
California Baptist University ( CBU ) reasonably anticipates paying
for this role. The final rate may vary depending on the candidate’s
qualifications, experience, and prevailing market conditions. In

Position Summary Information
Summary
Serve as Head Coach for the Men’s Basketball team at California
Baptist University by performing the following duties personally or
through subordinate workers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Instruct athletes with sound principles and expertise in skill
development, training, and strategies to achieve success.
2. Responsible for knowledge of Basketball Rules and Conference/
NCAA Regulations and implement these rules on a consistent
basis.
3. Instruct and give spiritual guidance that will lead to positive
values, acceptable behavior, and self-discipline consistent with
the philosophy of athletics at CBU .
4. Motivate the team for maximum performance by utilizing
motivational philosophies that meet the needs of the students and
that are consistent with the CBU Athletic Program philosophy.
5. Responsible for the academic progress and academic success of
the program’s student athletes.
6. Assign assistant coaches’ specific duties, supervise the
assignments, and complete proper evaluations at the end of
season.
7. Recruit and evaluate prospective student athletes who are of the
level necessary to be successful academically and athletically,
within the framework of CBU and NCAA policies.
8. Display good sportsmanship in relationship with students, staff,
officials and opponents as consistent with NCAA policies regarding
the principle of sportsmanship and ethical conduct.
9. Maintain up-to-date information about sport regulations, rule
changes, and Conference/ NCAA policies.
10. Responsible for submission of yearly budget to Athletic
Director and keep current on all team expenditures to ensure
compliance with team budget.
11. Maintain and submit all required conference and NCAA lists,
forms and records on time as instructed by Compliance Office.
12. Develop each athlete to have a respect for university property
and its care.
13. Work with the Athletic Director in setting goals and objectives
for the Athletic Department.
14. Assist in the recruitment and selection of staff personnel and
in the development of roles and responsibilities.
15. Respond to all administrative correspondence in the requested
timeframe and attend all staff meetings.
16. Adhere to all institutional, conference and NCAA by-laws and
regulations.
17. Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student
athletes. Establish and ensure a safe environment for
student-athletes.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervise the program’s assistant coaches and other
program leaders. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in
accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training
employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising
performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing
complaints and resolving problems.

Knowledge of coaching methods and effectively able to manage
time in a demanding work environment.
Ability to travel, including domestic/international air travel,
and work nights/weekends.
Knowledge and have the responsibility for adherence of all
assistant coaches to all Conference and NCAA rules and bylaws.
Able to always be a positive representative of the
University.
Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties
of the position.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability
to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student
body.
Ability to effectively arrange home and away contests according
to conference and NCAA requirements and submit travel paperwork and
NCAA pass lists on time.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS : The physical demands described here are
representative of those that must be met by an employee to
successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Requires
visual acuity to read words and numbers and speaking and hearing
ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly
required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel;
reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The
employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee
must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Reasonable

WORK ENVIRONMENT : The work environment characteristics
described here are representative of those an employee encounters
while performing the essential functions of this job. While
performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly
exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently
exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts.

The noise level in the work environment could be moderate to
loud.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; and one to
two years related experience and training; or equivalent
combination of education and experience. Secondary level athletic
experience preferred. Previous coaching experience at high school
or NCAA level preferred.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION / PERMITS : A valid Class B
California Driver’s license is required.
