Boys Modified Basketball Head Coach

Cooperstown Central School (CCS) offers a comprehensive athletic program, competing in Section III’s Center State Conference. The school emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth among its student-athletes.

Program Leadership & Team Development
• Planning and conducting practices focused on fundamental skill development
• Teaching basic offensive and defensive concepts appropriate for the modified level
• Fostering a positive and inclusive team environment that emphasizes sportsmanship and effort
• Encouraging academic success and responsible student behavior

Game & Practice Management
• Organizing structured, developmentally appropriate practices
• Preparing student-athletes for game situations and basic strategies
• Ensuring understanding of basketball rules and proper techniques
• Supervising athletes during practices and contests

Player Development & Mentorship
• Teaching fundamental basketball skills (dribbling, passing, shooting, defense)
• Promoting physical fitness, conditioning, and safe play
• Supporting student-athletes’ growth both on and off the court
• Encouraging teamwork, confidence, and positive attitudes

Program Administration
• Communicating with the Athletic Director regarding schedules, equipment, and needs
• Ensuring compliance with school policies and NYSPHSAA regulations
• Working collaboratively with JV and Varsity coaches to support program development
• Communicating effectively with parents and school staff

Program Support & Development
• Helping introduce and retain student-athletes in the basketball program
• Supporting the development of athletes as they progress to higher levels
• Promoting the program within the school community

Qualifications & Requirements
• Must meet certification/licensing requirements set by the NYS Education Department
• Knowledge of basketball fundamentals and a willingness to teach and mentor middle-level athletes
• Ability to create a positive, supportive, and structured learning environment

Additional Staffing Consideration
• Recommendation for two coaches will be considered if participation reaches 21 or more students.
