Cooperstown Central School (CCS) offers a comprehensive athletic program, competing in Section III’s Center State Conference. The school emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth among its student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Team Development:
• Planning and executing practices and game strategies appropriate for the JV level.
• Teaching and reinforcing fundamental offensive and defensive systems aligned with the overall basketball program.
• Fostering a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, effort, and academic success.
• Evaluating players and providing constructive feedback to support skill development and progression to the varsity level.

Game & Practice Management:
• Conducting structured, development-focused practices.
• Preparing for games and making in-game adjustments while prioritizing player learning.
• Maintaining knowledge of basketball rules and coaching best practices.

Player Development & Mentorship:
• Providing individualized coaching to build fundamental skills and game understanding.
• Supporting strength, conditioning, and injury prevention at an age-appropriate level.
• Encouraging academic success, responsibility, and personal growth.
• Promoting leadership, teamwork, and character development.

Program Collaboration & Administration:
• Working closely with the Varsity and Modified coaches to ensure program alignment and player progression.
• Assisting the Athletic Director with scheduling, equipment, and program needs.
• Ensuring compliance with school and athletic association regulations.
• Communicating effectively with parents, staff, and the school community.

Program Development:
• Supporting the development and retention of student-athletes within the basketball program.
• Helping prepare student-athletes for advancement to the varsity level.
• Building strong connections across all levels of the program.

Qualifications & Requirements:
• Must complete certification/licensing requirements set by the Commissioner of Education of the NYS Education Department.
