Position Overview
The Assistant Coach at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP) is a vital member of the Braves Athletics coaching staff, supporting the program’s mission of developing successful adults from student-athletes through their pursuit of excellence in competition, the classroom, and the community. This position requires demonstrated knowledge of, and success in, coaching at the intercollegiate level, preferably within NCAA Division II and understanding of Conference Carolinas standards. The successful candidate must exhibit strong teaching ability, leadership, communication, and motivational skills while assisting in all facets of program development and operation under the direction of the Head Coach.

Primary Responsibilities
1. Coaching & Student-Athlete Development Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing all aspects of practice sessions, skill instruction, and competitive preparation. Provide individualized coaching and performance feedback to enhance student-athlete growth and team success. Support student-athletes in achieving academic and personal success consistent with the mission and values of UNC Pembroke and NCAA Division II athletics. Contribute to strategic game planning, scouting opponents, and conducting video review sessions. 2. Recruitment & Retention Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who meet academic and athletic standards for UNC Pembroke and the NCAA. Develop and maintain strong relationships with high school, club, and junior college coaches and prospective student-athletes. Coordinate and assist with on-campus recruiting visits, communication, and follow-up efforts. Support retention through ongoing mentorship, leadership, and fostering a positive team environment. Experience recruiting NCAA Transfer Portal 3. Program Operations & Administration Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the specific athletics program, including practice and competition scheduling, travel coordination, and budgetary oversight. Help maintain facilities, equipment inventories, and program logistics. Oversee and guide student managers, graduate assistants, or volunteer staff as assigned. Ensure program compliance with institutional policies, NCAA regulations, and Conference Carolinas standards. Familiar with HUDL, Synergy & Fast Scout Software 4. Community & Campus Engagement Represent UNC Pembroke Athletics and the specific sport program at university, community, and alumni events. Support community service initiatives that reflect the Division II philosophy of “Life in the Balance.” Engage in fundraising, promotional events, and public relations activities to elevate the visibility and support of the program. Foster positive relationships with campus departments, athletic supporters, and community organizations. 5. Compliance & Academic Support Ensure strict adherence to all NCAA, Conference Carolinas, and university compliance regulations. Maintain accurate records for recruiting, eligibility, and participation. Support academic monitoring and student-athlete welfare initiatives in collaboration with athletics academic services. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or the Director of Athletics. 6. Academic Advisement/Study Hall Proctor evening Study Hall for the Center for Student Success as assigned. Connect students with CSS resources as applicable. Management Preference
