Position Summary
St. John the Beloved Catholic School seeks a qualified and mission-driven individual to serve as Athletic Director. This part-time position (approximately 25 hours per week) is responsible for the leadership, supervision, and administration of the school’s interscholastic athletic programs in alignment with the mission of Catholic education and the policies of the Diocese of Wilmington. Athletes include both Saint John the Beloved school students and parishioners in the religious education program of Saint John the Beloved and Saint Catherine of Siena Parishes. The Athletic Director reports to the Principal and works collaboratively with the President of the Athletic Association.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Promote and uphold Catholic values in all athletic programs and activities. Coordinate scheduling of team Masses each month, team catechesis, and prayer at all practices, games, meets, competitions, and other events.
• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for multiple sports programs.
• Serve as primary contact for sports communications.
• Manage and Maintain SJB platform for registrations.
• Recruit, supervise, evaluate, and mentor coaches; ensure Safe Environment compliance.
• Develop and manage game and practice schedules; coordinate facilities usage.
• Responsible for Basketball tournament.
• Oversee equipment inventory, uniforms, and program logistics.
• Assist the Athletic Association to manage budget and ensure timely payment of league & vendor fees. Promptly submit invoice payments and reimbursement requests to the school bookkeeper along with proper documentation. Help to ensure the collection of fees for participation.
• Help support various fund-raising activities, especially the annual carnival. – Assist Carnival Chair with preparation for and execution of the Carnival.
• Ensure compliance with diocesan policies, CYM regulations, and student eligibility requirements.
• Serve as liaison between school leadership, coaches, parents, and parish community.
• Coordinate athletic communications and annual recognition events (e.g., Sports Banquet).
Qualifications
• Devout Catholic required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience required.
• Demonstrated experience managing a comprehensive athletic program across multiple sports & seasons.
• Experience in practice and game scheduling, facilities coordination, equipment management, and financial oversight, responsible for entire AA budget.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Familiarity with Catholic school athletics and CYM guidelines preferred.
• Strong capability to manage multiple programs simultaneously.
• Familiarity with the TeamSnap platform.
Compensation
This is a non-exempt hourly part-time (approx. 25 hours per week) position during the athletic year (early August to mid-June)with the anticipated hourly rate of $26-$28 commensurate with experience and consistent with Wilmington-area Catholic school athletic leadership positions.
Requirements of Employment
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all Diocese of Wilmington Safe Environment requirements, criminal background check, and compliance with diocesan “For the Sake of God’s Children” Child Protection Policies.
