Job Description:
Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Associate Head Coach, Men’s Basketball (GA025) in Athletics. The Associate Head Coach provides essential support to the Head Coach in all facets of the program while advancing the mission of Longwood University and the Department of Athletics. Specific areas of responsibility include coaching a segment or unit of the team, student-athlete development, student-athlete recruitment, program administration, and program advancement while achieving agreed-upon results. All activities must be conducted within the policies and resource framework of the university, the Athletics Department, the Big South Conference, and the NCAA.
This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University’s campus.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Student-Athlete Development
Develop sport-specific student-athletes through counseling, advising, education, and motivation.
Monitor, evaluate, and retain student-athletes while supporting their academic, athletic, and personal development.
Organize and execute team-building and character-development initiatives.
Coaching
Assist the Head Coach in all areas of planning, including practices, training sessions, conditioning, lineups, and competitive strategies.
Provide leadership for designated aspects of sport-specific planning.
Instruct and demonstrate techniques and skills; conduct specific instruction for assigned segments of the roster.
Assist in evaluating team and individual performance and assessing effectiveness.
Recommend adjustments to strategies and training plans when appropriate.
Maintain consistent communication with student-athletes and team members.
Recruiting
Organize and execute the recruiting plan for sport-specific athletes while coordinating communication with on-campus and off-campus personnel.
Assist in identifying, attracting, and selecting prospective student-athletes.
Evaluate prospects (including athletic ability, character, and commitment) through high school visits, competitions, and home visits when appropriate.
Assist in successfully yielding committed student-athletes.
Program Administration
Assist the Head Coach in planning and evaluating program results, priorities, and long-term goals.
Assist in preparing and managing the annual program budget.
Assist in scheduling competitions and planning tournaments in coordination with the appropriate administrator.
Ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
Utilize technology to enhance program efficiency and productivity.
Advancement
Assist in promoting strong public and media relations.
Support alumni engagement through newsletters, fundraising efforts, and alumni events; in some cases, lead the planning and execution of these activities.
Promote strong parent, community, and professional relationships.
Support departmental, institutional, and professional service commitments.
Requirements:
Master’s degree preferred, or Bachelor’s degree with equivalent training and work experience
Extensive amount of coaching at the Division I level
Previous experience as a NCAA Division I college basketball player is preferred
A strong commitment to the Student-Athlete concept and a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
Must be able to perform physical activities associated with the sport of basketball
Must be willing to meet university eligibility to drive state fleet vehicles, including vans or mini-buses
