Job Description
The University of Missouri Department of Athletics is seeking an
Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach to support the development,
training, and performance of the Mizzou Men’s Basketball program.
Reporting to the Head Coach, this position will play a key role in
on-court coaching, player development, recruiting, and game
strategy. The assistant coach will work closely with
student-athletes, other coaches, athletic staff, and support
personnel to enhance team success and ensure compliance with NCAA
and SEC regulations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Coaching and Player Development (40%)
• Assist in planning and conducting practices that develop
individual and team skills, conditioning, and tactical
knowledge.
• Provide position-specific instruction to student-athletes,
including technical and strategic guidance.
• Evaluate player performance, offer feedback, and develop
individualized improvement plans.
• Support strength, conditioning, and injury-prevention programs in
coordination with athletic training staff.
2. Recruiting and Talent Evaluation (25%)
• Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes through
scouting, video review, and in-person visits.
• Participate in recruiting efforts, including campus visits,
communication with prospects and families, and coordination with
compliance staff.
• Maintain accurate recruiting records and adhere to NCAA and SEC
recruiting regulations.
3. Game Planning and Strategy (20%)
• Assist the Head Coach with game strategy, lineups, and in-game
adjustments.
• Analyze opponent game film and provide scouting reports for the
team.
• Support preparation for practices and competitions to maximize
team performance.
4. Administrative Support and Collaboration (10%)
• Collaborate with athletic training, strength and conditioning,
academic support, and equipment staff to coordinate player care and
logistics.
• Assist with travel, team events, and other operational needs of
the program.
• Maintain records, statistics, and other documentation as directed
by the Head Coach.
5. Other Duties (5%)
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach or
Athletics administration.
• Ensure compliance with University, NCAA, and SEC rules, policies,
and procedures.
Shift
Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm; Nights, Weekends, and Travel as
required.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in related/ relevant area or an equivalent
combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of
experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be
acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Coaching experience is
preferred.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
