Job Summary

Concord University, a member of the Mountain East Conference and NCAA Division II, is seeking a dynamic and motivated professional to serve in a dual role as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Admissions Counselor. This position is designed to support both competitive success within the athletics department and strategic enrollment growth for the institution.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a competitive basketball program while actively engaging in student recruitment efforts to attract and enroll prospective students to the university.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duty/Responsibility

Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Duties
Assist the Head Coach in all aspects of operating a competitive NCAA Division II basketball program.Plan and conduct practices, skill development sessions, and individual workouts.Scout opponents and prepare game strategies, including film breakdown and analytics.Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes in compliance with NCAA and Mountain East Conference regulations.Monitor academic progress and support retention and graduation of student-athletes.Assist with scheduling, travel logistics, and equipment coordination.Organize and support youth camps, clinics, and community engagement initiatives across southern West Virginia and surrounding regions.Represent the program and university in a professional manner at all times.

Athletics Recruitment Coordinator Duties
Conduct high school visits and represent Concord University at recruitment events to identify and engage prospective student-athletes across all athletic programs.Assist with on-campus visit programs, including tours and open house eventsCollaborate with athletics and academic departments to support recruitment of student-athletes

Education/Knowledge

Minimum Education
Bachelor’s

Required Licenses/Certification

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

Master’s degree.

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.Collegiate playing experience and/or coaching experience in basketball.Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel.Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for recruiting.
Preferred
Master’s degree.Experience coaching or working within NCAA Division II athletics.Previous recruiting experience (athletics or admissions).Knowledge of NCAA compliance rules and Mountain East Conference policies.Experience working with student information systems or CRM platforms (e.g., Slate).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to balance coaching responsibilities with enrollment management duties.Strong relationship-building skills with prospective students, families, and high school personnel.Commitment to the academic and athletic success of student-athletes.Understanding of the role of athletics in supporting enrollment growth at a regional public institution.Strong work ethic and adaptability in a resource-conscious Division II environment.
