Description
Essential Functions:
- Provides specialized instruction, with specific educational planning, for those students whose needs cannot be met within the general classroom.
- Works cooperatively with general and special education teachers by interpreting the abilities and disabilities of their students, and assists students with achievement of the curriculum; assesses students who are referred to determine if they qualify for the adapted physical education services.
- Consults with General Education PE teacher to provide modifications and accommodations for students who received Adapted PE on a consultative basis.
- Develops and instructs an appropriate and innovative Adapted PE curriculum.
- Designs programs to meet individual student needs as specified on the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in physical fitness, gross motor skills, perceptual motor skills and sports and games achievement.
- Develops, implements, and annually reviews student Individualized Education Programs (IEP) according to federal, state and local procedures.
- Maintains ongoing records of student performance and IEP implementation in order to evaluate progress including report cards and IEP progress reports.
- Evaluates and monitors student progress and makes periodic reports on the achievement and personal adjustment of identified students.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
- An acceptable rating of prior teaching experience, as applicable.
