Description
The Adaptive Physical Education (APE) Teacher is responsible for the delivery of specified course content. The goal of the APE Teacher is to provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth and to enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
ESSENTIAL DUITES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement individualized physical education programs for students with disabilities, including those with physical, sensory, cognitive, and emotional challenges.
- Collaborate with special education staff, therapists, and caregivers to assess students' needs, create appropriate goals, and monitor progress.
- Modify and adapt activities, equipment, and teaching methods to ensure student engagement and success in physical activities.
- Provide instruction in a variety of physical activities including team sports, individual sports, fitness, motor development, and recreational activities.
- Foster an inclusive classroom environment that encourages physical activity, self-confidence, teamwork, and respect among students.
- Use assistive technology and adaptive equipment to facilitate participation for students with mobility, visual, or hearing impairments.
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to track the progress of students’ physical development, adjusting lesson plans as necessary.
- Communicate regularly with caregivers to provide updates on students’ progress, discuss goals, and provide strategies for continued development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in assigned subject area.
- Massachusetts Educator’s License, Grades 5-8 in assigned subject area.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities.
- Ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Those personal and professional characteristics necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position
- Employment based on successful completion of a CORI background check.
- Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.
