Adaptive Physical Education Teacher

Duties:

• Provide an appropriate and innovative adapted P.E. program in order to meet individual student needs in physical fitness, gross motor skills, perceptual motor skills, sports and game achievement.
• Provide direct instruction in adaptive physical education to students with disabilities.
• Provide motor and fitness evaluations for recommended students.
• Provide requested reports of progress on children served (quarterly).
• Provide consultative services to general education PE teachers.
• Attend IEP conferences and annual reviews when determined necessary.
• Maintain open communication with the teacher, parents and school health professionals.
• Participate in in-service training to discuss program evaluations, new research endorsed techniques, and other topics.
• Recommend necessary equipment and provide instruction on proper usage.

Qualifications:

• Appropriate Illinois licensure (PEL) with approval for adaptive physical education.
• Experience with school age children with multiple impairment.
• Ability to travel between sites.
• Ability to lift 30 pounds.
