Adaptive Physical Education Teacher

Job Goal:

To provide services to special needs children in teaching and demonstrate leadership in assisting classroom teachers to provide successful learning experience for special needs students.

Responsibilities:

• Administers standardized and informal evaluations of student’s physical education needs.
• Develops specific goals and objectives for appropriate students for inclusion in the Individual Education Plans Evaluates equipment needs, coordinates the acquisition and utilization of equipment, and oversees proper maintenance of equipment.
• Collaborates with therapists (OT, PT, SLP) and educators to provide physical education and leisure that is adapted to each student’s ability level.
• Supports students with APE services in inclusion physical education classes.
• Plans and implements high school level Physical Education Integration & Education class.

Qualifications:

• Massachusetts Teacher’s Certification.
• Certification in Moderate Special Needs, Generic Teacher or Special Education.
• Teacher of young children with special needs.
• Masters degree preferred.
• Demonstrated diagnostic and prescriptive ability with learning styles.
• Commitment to designing and conducting in-service.
• Commitment to increasing professional growth.
