Description
Adaptative physical education is physical education that may be adapted or modified to address the individualized needs of students who have cognitive and gross motor development needs. Under the supervision of the Principal, the Adaptive Physical Education Teacher utilizes current strategies to plan, organize and implement structured Adaptive Physical Education lessons for students with disabilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implements developed curricula in the areas of flexibility, balance, strength, and cardiovascular conditioning.
- Responsible for development of IEP current performance and objectives.
- Works/consults with the occupational and physical therapists as needed.
- Works across the school district in multiple buildings. Will be required to travel within district
- Encourages social skills and participation with disabled and non-disabled peers.
- Provides direct and consultative APE services to students with intellectual disabilities, Autism, TBI, Orthopedic Impairments, OHI, and other disabilities not listed, grades K-12.
- Conducts assessments, generates IEP goals/objectives.
- Administers and/or supports state and local standardized testing processes and policies.
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with school Principals and staff, central office administrators and staff, parents, students, care providers, volunteers and external customers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.
- Hold or eligible for State of Delaware teacher certification in Health Physical Education, Special Education.
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, methodology of effective teaching.
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
- Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents.
