Description
The 7th Grade Girls Basketball Assistant Coach will support the head coach in developing players' skills, teamwork, and love for the game. This role involves assisting with practices, games, and fostering a positive and safe environment that emphasizes personal growth and teamwork. The assistant coach will work closely with the head coach to implement strategies and ensure the program aligns with Fort Morgan Middle School’s athletic goals and values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with Practice Planning and Execution: Support the head coach in planning and running practices that emphasize skill development, conditioning, and team strategy.
- Skill Development: Provide individual and small-group coaching to help players improve fundamental basketball skills, including shooting, passing, dribbling, and defense.
- Game Day Support: Assist in setting up, managing, and coaching during games, including helping with player rotations, strategy, and sideline management.
- Encourage Teamwork and Sportsmanship: Model and promote positive behavior, good sportsmanship, and teamwork on and off the court.
- Communication: Maintain open and positive communication with players, parents, the head coach, and the athletic department.
- Student-Athlete Welfare: Ensure a safe environment for all players, including adhering to safety protocols and handling minor injuries in coordination with athletic trainers or staff.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; previous experience in basketball (as a player or coach) is preferred.
- Coaching Knowledge: Understanding of basketball fundamentals, rules, and strategies.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and motivate young athletes in a constructive and supportive manner.
- Team-Oriented: Works collaboratively with the head coach, athletes, and other school staff.
- Commitment: Availability for practices, games, and meetings throughout the season, with a commitment to developing student-athletes.
