Description
Assists in providing leadership and direction for an assigned area within the athletic department. Responsible for the development, coordination, and administration of the department. Responsible for employees in the assigned area.
Major/Essential Functions:
- Serve on Marsha Sharp Center for Student-Athletes (MSC) Leadership, which includes responsibilities for creating, implementing, and assessing the operations and policies for the entire unit.
- Provide direct oversight to football athletics academic advising staff; manage an effective process of monitoring student-athlete academic progress, incorporating current best practices in the profession.
- Communicate with football coaching staff through scheduled academic meetings; regularly and promptly share detailed information regarding the ongoing academic progress of assigned student-athletes.
- Serve as the advisor to a designated group of football student-athletes; monitor their academic progress; provide course advisement, career, and personal guidance; educate student-athletes on eligibility rules.
- Regularly communicate the progress, outcomes, and direction of work to the Senior Associate Athletics Director and Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services; make recommendations concerning the improvement of programs and services.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in counseling, sport management, higher education, or a related area.
- Five years of experience as an academic counselor/ advisor for student-athletes at the Division I level.
- At least one year of supervisory experience with full-time or student staff in a student-athlete academic support unit. Direct work experience with an FBS football program.
- Proficiency and/or familiarity with the University's systems, including Banner, Blackboard, and Teamworks/Retain.
- Experience with assessment of academic programs and outcomes. Proficiency in using computer software such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, etc.
