Description
The Assistant Coach is responsible to assisting the Head Coach in overseeing his or her sport in the best interest of the University, and to adhere to the Philosophy, Mission Statement, and the Athletic Policy of Simpson University. Further, each Assistant Coach should have a working knowledge of their governing organizations (NAIA and the Simpson University Athletic Policy) as it relates to them, personally, or their responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in sports management, physical education, athletic coaching, recreation or another related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Five years successful coaching and recruiting experience at collegiate level, with proven record preferred.
- Ability to serve as a strong Christian role model/mentor for student athletes and actively contribute in the spiritual development of athletes.
- Ability to maintain a strong Christ centered culture for student-athletes within their team activities.
- Ability to demonstrate quality skills for practice.
- Ability to demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and interpersonal, in the performance of job duties.
- Ability to complete tasks that have set deadlines.
- Strong ability to attract, recruit, and develop student-athletes.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain a strong moral/Christian culture within their sport and with their team.
- Communicate effectively the rules of the sport to the players.
- Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques in the sport by attending clinics, reading new information, and networking with other coaches in the profession.
- Help administer the athletic study halls or tutoring for student-athletes who need the extra help.
- Give input to award winners, needed budget items, and budget preparation.
- Accept other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Head Coach and/or Director of Athletics.
- Recruiting and retaining student-athletes in accordance with NAIA and institutional rules, regulations and guidelines.
- Organizing, preparing and executing effective practice, strength training and meet strategies.
- Monitoring and nurturing student-athletes’ academic and personal progress.
