Description
The Assistant Coach will assist in instructing athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. The Assistant Coach will assist in providing instruction and guidance that will lead to the formulation and enhancement of self-confidence, self-discipline, good sportsmanship, acceptable social behavior, pride of accomplishment and moral values.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate effectively with the Athletic Director, Head Coach, and Athletic Department; adhere to Board of Education and District policies and job criteria.
- Complete the full season schedule, including league contests, and follow in-season training rules.
- Be a positive role model, maintain professionalism, and dress appropriately for practices and games.
- Arrive on time for practices and games; participate in Awards Night and support team events.
- Maintain proper conduct, using respectful language toward players, officials, and fans.
- Exhibit enthusiasm and good judgment, and be open to constructive criticism for improving coaching performance.
- Knowledgeable in matters pertaining to the sport and demonstrate proficiency in sport techniques and ensure players respond well to coaching.
- Promote respect through example, including appearance, behavior, and conduct at all times.
- Develop game strategies and motivate the team to achieve goals, while promoting good sportsmanship.
- Ensure proper supervision during trips and practices, and promptly report any disciplinary issues.
- Adapt coaching to suit athletes’ skill levels and assist with developing practice schedules that enhance both individual and team growth.
Requirements:
- Knowledgeable in all phases of the sport and should have previous coaching experience.
- Complete all required information and background checks designated through the MCPS Policy Manual.
- Must obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL). CDL training is available free of charge through the Mecklenburg County Public Schools' Transportation Department. Training must be completed before the season ends.
