Description
The primary role of this position is to provide teaching, coaching, and technical expertise needed to allow the student-athlete to compete at their highest competitive potential, including all coaching and/or teaching duties associated with the program. This includes the oversight and management of the safety and well-being of those student athletes assigned to their coaching care. In the absence of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach is expected to act on behalf of the Head Coach on any and all related program issues.
Responsibilities:
- Utilizes sound teaching techniques in the conduct of game preparation and practice sessions;
- Assists in making strategic decisions in contest situations;
- Effectively prepares and organizes pre-season, in-season and post-season conditioning programs and practice sessions;
- Oversees the strength and conditioning development of the athletes;
- Assists the Head Coach in the evaluation of the student-athlete; and
- Remains aware, and maintains a safe and healthy environment for the student-athlete.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree or a combination of training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree;
- Demonstrated experience coaching at the college level and/or professional experience in the field of swim and dive;
- Knowledge and understanding of Atlantic 10, and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Rules and Regulations;
- Solid demonstrated knowledge of the sport, including rules, strategies, and techniques;
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills;
- Advanced organizational and time-management skills;
- Ability to motivate and inspire players to achieve their full potential;
- Ability to demonstrate effective leadership qualities.
