Description
The Assistant Coach reports to the Director Men’s and Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country and is responsible for assisting in carrying out all activities necessary to accomplish the objectives of this sport within the guidelines of the NCAA, Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10), and the University.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit and retain highly skilled student-athletes for the team;
- Provide instruction, specifically, on the sprinting, hurdling, relay and/or jumping events;
- Develop training and competition strategies for the above event group;
- Monitor student-athlete’s academic progress;
- Maintain field and practice areas;
- Market and promote the program;
- Utilize various and appropriate technologies to analyze and apply findings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Demonstrated ability to coach within a highly competitive track and field and cross country program;
- A proven record of integrity, high principles and demonstrated skill in developing and motivating student athletes academically and athletically;
- Must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator’s license that meets all of GMU’s requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason’s Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/ The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver’s licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorable review.
