Description
The Assistant Athletic Instructor is responsible for working with the Head Coach in all aspects of the respective sport. Must have an understanding of all pertinent NCAA rules governing the sport. Must have a commitment to the Division III philosophy and be able to work within the philosophy and mission of the Athletic Department.
Essential Functions:
- Individual instruction of skills sets: student athletes will have the necessary knowledge and skills to establish and maintain physical fitness, demonstrate fundamental skills pertinent to respective sport, understand the effects of their sport, and maintain physical health;
- Team concepts: student athletes will demonstrate responsible personal and social behavior while engaging in physical activity; understand that participation in intercollegiate athletics provides the opportunity for enjoyment, teamwork, challenge, self-expression, and communication;
- Safety: student athletes will be able to identify safety hazards and react effectively to ensure a safe and positive experience for all participants.
- Identifies and recruits potential student-athletes for the College, including but not limited to:
- Plans and implements student athlete recruitment programs and related activities;
- Participates in developing effective recruitment strategies;
- Responsible for recruiting activities and follow-up of prospective students.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in physical education, health, or related field and college gevel playing experience required.
- Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license and an understanding of all NCAA rules and regulations.
- Must be able to communicate with both the student-athletes, families, head coach and staff. Have a thorough knowledge of the sport and be able to instruct the sport to others.
- Candidates must have exceptional organizational skills and be able to attend to and prioritize a high number of projects at once.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to manage interpersonal relationships are key to the position.
- High emphasis placed on professionalism, efficiency and a positive attitude.
