A bachelor’s degree in a related field of study is required. Responsible for a particular aspect of the sport as assigned by the Head Coach. The candidate will plan short and long-term objectives under the leadership of the head coach. The successful candidate will demonstrate technical expertise in the basics of the sport. The candidate must be able to teach the fundamentals and advanced level skills to student-athletes. Must be able to recruit prospective student-athletes; supervise practice sessions; provide expert advice to the head coach and team members; provide guidance or mentoring to student athletes throughout the academic year; coordinate with the Academic Advisors; and monitor academic progress of participating student-athletes. Working nights and weekends are standard and expected. Good communication skills and recruiting rapport with prospective athletes is essential and desired. Additional duties may be required at the discretion of the Head Coach or the administration. The ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all situations is a must.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Coach, mentor, and instruct athletes on day-to-day basis at practice and in competition.
Assist the Head Coach in coordinating and supervising all daily practices.
Assist the Head Track & Field Coach in conducting the track & field program in accordance with all NCAA, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and university rules.
Attendance at compliance meetings.
Appropriate record keeping for recruiting and playing/practice seasons, monitoring eligibility of student-athletes in the program.
Successfully completing the annual NCAA Certification test, and assisting in the education of student-athletes about NCAA regulations.
Participate in departmental activities, including service on committees and attendance at all scheduled meetings.
Serve as liaison to academic advisors, trainers, and strength & conditioning staff.
Represent the program through public speaking assignments and community service projects.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Track & Field Coach and/or athletic administration.
