Description
The Assistant Director of Athletics, Athletic Communication manages Pepperdine Athletics communications department and serves as lead media relations contact. The position is responsible for oversight of Pepperdine Athletics website and all athletic publications including, but not limited to, media guides, game programs, game notes, feature stories, and game recaps.
Duties:
- Prepare press releases and feature articles, including promoting postseason honors for outstanding student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. Write, edit and publish print materials including (but not limited to): media guides, press releases, game programs, contest recaps and feature stories for assigned sports programs, and creating content for social media in the form of graphics, recaps, video, etc.
- Provide supervision and leadership to full-time Athletics Communications staff, student interns and volunteers.
- Manage media relations and statistical services at home events for assigned sports programs, including organizing and supervising required stat crews, broadcast talent and photographer staffing for home events.
- Oversee media relations for Pepperdine Athletics. Issue media credentials, maintain website, coordinate press releases, and report on event/contest results. Serve as publicist and media liaison to Conferences and NCAA. Develop and maintain a good working relationship with local and sport-specific media outlets; and distribute information to local, regional and national media.
- Maintain historical and photographic archives of Pepperdine Athletics, as well as team and individual statistics.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations or related field; 2-4 years of full-time athletic media relations experience; Extensive proficiency with PageMaker and Photoshop software as well as outstanding editing, writing, and communications skills.
- Knowledge of NCAA-approved statistical procedures and awareness of NCAA rules and regulations. Complies with all University, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
