Description
The Assistant Director of Sports Nutrition provides individual and group/team nutrition services, including counseling and education, to enhance the health and performance of student-athletes competing on behalf of the athletic department as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with provision of nutrition and dietitian related services, including working directly with student-athletes and teams as assigned.
- Counsel student-athletes on optimal nutrition for training, competition, recovery, weight management, hydration, immunity, disordered eating, travel, and supplementation.
- Conduct nutritional assessments and screenings for individuals and teams, including assessing and analyzing dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance in the context of athletic performance and health.
- Implement team nutrition plans, including consultation on team meals and snacks based on schedule and activities.
- Collaborate with sport coaches, strength and conditioning staff, sports medicine staff and related student-athlete service providers to ensure a comprehensive approach to training, nutrition and recovery, as well as aiding in the treatment of diet and nutritional-related medical issues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Nutrition Science, Dietetics, or related field is required; Master’s Degree is preferred.
- Registered Dietitian via the American Dietetic Association and Tennessee State Licensure or Licensure eligibility is required.
- Completion of a dietetic internship supervised practice program approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
