Description
Vanderbilt University’s Athletics Department prepares student-athletes to become leaders and champions in life by placing the highest values on integrity, character, sportsmanship, and victory. Vanderbilt is a charter member of the Southeastern Conference and is the conference's only private school. The university fields 17 varsity teams (6 men's teams and 11 women's teams), 15 of which compete in the Southeastern Conference.
Key Functions and Expected Performance:
- Responsible for monitoring the academic progress of assigned sports and providing academic counseling and support services as needed.
- Meet regularly with assigned caseload, including weekly meetings with first-year student-athletes as well as those in danger of not meeting good academic standing.
- Report academic progress to coaches and sport administrators.
- Check classes for attendance.
- Assist in tracking student-athletes’ compliance with NCAA academic eligibility and progress towards Vanderbilt University degree requirements.
- Help student-athletes learn time management skills to assist in balancing the demands of academics and athletics.
- Serve as a sounding board for student-athletes to help them deal with issues surrounding the transition from home life to college.
- Meet with prospective student-athletes and their families as requested.
- Alert professors and/or deans to absences due to university-sanctioned travel to athletic events, medical procedures or illnesses, deaths in the family or other extenuating circumstances that may constitute a missed class.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s Degree is preferred.
- A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
- 2-3 years of experience within football academics at an NCAA Division I athletics program is preferred.
- Organized, detail oriented and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision is required.
- High emotional intelligence and ability to communicate effectively is required.
