Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promotes and fosters a positive team environment, appropriate behavior, and sportsmanship by team members.
- Responsible for the conduct of team members both on and off the court.
- Promotes and maintains an environment where the physical, mental, social and academic well-being of all student-athletes are a priority.
- Assists with identifying, evaluating, recruiting and selecting qualified prospects who have the ability to compete in the classroom and athletically. Actively seek out and encourage a diverse group of prospects and assist them through the application process. Works collaboratively with the Compliance, Student-Athlete Services, and Academics staff to qualify and process prospects in a timely and efficient manner. Makes recurring contacts by telephone, writes correspondence, conducts off-campus visits and evaluations, and coordinates off campus visits as assigned by the Head Coach.
- Assists with overseeing the academic progress and success of student-athletes including promoting and maintaining an environment that encourages academic achievement as measured by academic eligibility, retention, and graduation.
- Participates in sports clinics, exhibitions, and camps as approved.
- Actively participates in fundraising, promotional, and public relation activities for the sports program.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited four year college or university;
- One (1) year of experience coaching basketball at the college or university level;
- or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Knowledge of basketball as competed at the collegiate level.
- Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
- Ability to work outside normally scheduled work hours including day, night, weekend and /or holiday hours as directed.
- Ability to travel with the team as required.
