Description
Under the general supervision of Head Basketball Coach, the Assistant Basketball Coach provides support and assistant with all aspect of an NJCAA intercollegiate basketball program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- In cooperation with the Head Basketball Coach, the Assistant Basketball Coach develops and maintains a system to identify potential recruits and to work closely with area high school coaches and parents to recruit quality student athletes to Marion Military Institute, which will include scouting on and off campus.
- Works in conjunction with the Head Basketball Coach to encourage the development of psychological, social, and mental skills necessary for the student athletes to be successful in the classroom, on the court, and in future endeavors, will monitor team study hall, review progress reports, coordinate tutoring schedule, and monitor class attendance.
- Works with Admissions and Financial Aid to expedite the admission and registration of basketball student athletes.
- Under the direction of the Head Basketball Coach, the Assistant Basketball Coach is assigned to work with selected athletes on various game day situations.
- Assists the Head Basketball Coach in developing game strategies, and individual work-out and practice needs for various student athletes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field (master’s degree preferred).
- Experience with coaching and/or competing at the collegiate level required.
- Ability to objectively evaluate physical skills in the areas of physical potential and mental capability for intercollegiate athletics.
- Working knowledge of the rules of basketball and the ability to teach critical basketball skills required.
- Working knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations and competitive basketball strategies and training techniques.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
