Description
As an Assistant Coach for NJIT's intercollegiate Men's & Women’s Cross Country Track & Field team, this function finds the incumbent responsible for assisting the Head Coach in the proper and overall management of the Men’s & Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field program. Emphasis on training and coaching cross country runners and distance events.
Essential Functions:
- Coaching emphasis on distance.
- Organize, prepare, and conduct individual, group and team practices and training for the cross country and distance runners.
- Leads, monitors and coordinates training and practice sessions for the distance runners, ensuring that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained.
- Collaborates with the strength & conditioning staff and communicates with athletic training support staff to ensure the proper development, health and safety of the distance runners.
- Assists in the identification and recruitment of prospective student-athletes for the intercollegiate Men's & Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field program, in accordance with NCAA rules, regulations, guidelines and standards with an emphasis on distance/cross country.
- Assists in scheduling the intercollegiate Cross Country/Track & Field competitions.
- Assists with the planning, preparation and conducting of home cross country competitions.
- Fundraises, as needed in coordination with University Advancement, to supplement additional monies for the program.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of collegiate coaching experience with a specialty in distance, mid distance, and cross country.
- Strong interpersonal, communication skills and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students required.
- Must possess the ability to foster a cooperative environment.
- Must have knowledge of NCAA student-athlete academic eligibility requirements and recruiting rules.
- Must have the ability to understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- AED/CPR and First-aid certified.
