St. Thomas School
Description
Under general supervision, assists a Middle School Track & Field team. The season begins February 24th and concludes May 12th. Practices are held from 3:30-4:45 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Meets are held on Fridays from 3:30-7:00 p.m.
General Responsibilities:
- Discusses approach to team dynamics with Director of Athletics and After-School Programs and After-School Programs.
- Manages player development based on program core competencies.
- Works with the Head MS Track an Field Coach and the Director of Athletics and After-School Programs to create practice plans that are skill appropriate.
- Teaches appropriate fundamentals, techniques, and skills.
- Is responsible for the health and safety of the athletes.
- Articulates a well-defined and understandable coaching philosophy.
- Applies developmentally appropriate and age-appropriate methods to coaching student-athletes.
- Travels with the team for away meets against other local schools.
- Emphasizes sportsmanship and leadership among athletes.
- Clearly communicates to players, parents, administrators and staff.
- Positively motivates athletes and promotes teamwork.
- Attends all meetings and trainings as required by the league and/or Director of Athletics and After-School Programs and After-School Programs.
Education, Training & Experience:
- Demonstrated competence and experience in coaching Track & Field.
- Competence and experience in field events: throws, jumps and/or sprints preferred.
- Recent successful coaching experience in a Middle School environment preferred.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Bachelors degree in related field from a four-year college or university preferred.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain valid First Aid/CPR card.
