The Assistant Swim Coach reports directly to their Site Director and ultimately to the Head Age-Group Coach. This position is responsible for the role of coach for the specific training groups assigned and will support the Lead Site Coach, the Head Age-Group Coach and ultimately the Director of Competitive Swimming with the achievement of the Mission, Vision, and goals of the overall YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim Team.
Direct Coaching Responsibilities:
Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices (both swimming and dryland) in accordance with program strategies, objectives, guidelines, and policies. Swim meet attendance as assigned. Assist swimmers and parents with meet entries. Maintain swimmers’ attendance records each season. Maintain practice log/skill list for each training group. Make recommendations for training group level placement and changes. Make announcements daily concerning news or upcoming events. Distribute awards won after each meet attended.
Parent Communication and Education:
Be available to speak with parents 10-15 minutes before and after practices (as needed). Contact parent(s) if swimmer is absent without notification for one week. Communicate with parent(s) if swimmer is not participating in meets they are eligible to attend. Consult with parent(s) regarding training group level changes. Attend Parents’ Meeting at the start of each new season. Conduct periodic Parent/Coach conferences as necessary (led by Site Director).
