Description
Assists Director of Track & Field and Cross Country in day-to-day operations with the program, including but not limited to coaching, athlete development, recruiting, scouting, academic support and general operations with NCAA rules.
Primary Duties/Essential Functions:
- Scheduling practices and competitions and coordinating team travel arrangements within guidelines set forth by the department, institution, conference, and NCAA.
- Teach and develop cross country and track & field distance runners with the basic tenants and theory of the sport and skills needed to execute successful collegiate-level performance.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country in the development of the annual plan for the distance runners beginning with the cross country early return camp and ending at the track & field national championships.
- Aid in the physical development and organizational motivation of the team.
- Organize and lead team and/or individual-athlete meetings involving coaching personnel.
- Ensure student compliance with rules regarding behavior and appearance.
- Coordinate the conditioning and training of team members in conjunction with the sports medicine team.
- Work cooperatively with university coaches, staff, and faculty and community members.
- Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes who are good fits for the university both athletically and academically; communicating with PSAs and families; processing official and unofficial visits while communicating through the completion of necessary admissions and university documents.

- Sufficient experience to justify coaching, recruiting, compliance, and academic support.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to a variety of personalities.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of current thinking in areas of sport techniques and strategy, conditioning, fitness, and leadership and program management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and minister to student athletes.
- Excellent communication skills: both oral and written.
- Responsible driving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, exuding a mature demeanor while multitasking in a deadline-oriented environment with accuracy and consistency.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as an independent contributor.
