Description
The Assistant Volleyball Coach supports the SCC Head Coach in all aspects of running a competitive NJCAA Division II Volleyball program. This includes planning and conducting practices, assisting with game strategies, mentoring student-athletes, and promoting sportsmanship and teamwork. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, a solid understanding of volleyball fundamentals, and a commitment to the academic and athletic development of student-athletes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting practices and training sessions.
- Support the Head Coach in developing game strategies and analyzing performance.
- Provide individual and group instruction to improve players’ skills and techniques.
- Promote and ensure compliance with all school, league, and NJCAA rules and regulations.
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, study hall, and team travel.
- Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that emphasizes respect, accountability, and academic success.
- Help manage equipment, uniforms, and team logistics.
- Assist with recruitment and retention of student-athletes as needed.
- Attend all games, practices, fundraising events, and team meetings unless otherwise excused.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Previous coaching or competitive playing experience in volleyball (college level preferred).
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of rules, strategies, and techniques of volleyball.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel with the team.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Associate’s Degree / Bachelor’s degree preferred.
