Description
The Associate Director, Strategic Athletics Communications creates and executes the public and media relations strategy for FGCU’s NCAA Division I teams. This position spearheads content creation for distribution across many channels. The Associate Director is the primary media relations contact for FGCU athletics and is responsible for building relationships with reporters to promote stories of local, regional, and national importance.
Typical Duties:
- Defines communications strategies and oversees media relations efforts for all fifteen NCAA Division I programs, including the creation of a media-friendly campus for sports journalists, issuance of media credentials, and coordination of story coverage.
- Creates and executes a multi-pronged strategy for effective media and public relations related to FGCU athletics, including an overall content plan for publications, social media, and fgcuathletics.com.
- Establishes performance goals for Athletics Communications and measures to evaluate success of the area.
- Maintains and grows the reach of FGCU Athletics social media platforms and webpages through strategic planning.
- Serves as media liaison to ASUN, CCSA, NCAA and visiting athletics staff.
- Uncovers and pitches stories to internal and external media outlets to promote FGCU athletics.
- Creates and/or administrates athletics publications, and ensures publications maintain accurate and consistent branding.
- Provides supervision and leadership to full-time, temporary, and student Athletics Communication staff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
- Six years of professional full-time professional experience in higher education athletics marketing, communication, public and media relations, and/or publication creation.
- Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
- Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Knowledge of and ability to use AP Style.
