Description
Under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Membership & Programs, the Association Sports Director is responsible for overseeing and managing the sports programs and activities within the association. This role involves planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of sports leagues, clinics, tournaments, PE/Afterschool programs, camps, and events for participants of all ages.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in sports management, human services, social services, recreation, business or equivalent work experience required.
- 1-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven supervisory skills in recruiting, training, evaluating, and motivating staff and volunteers, as well as developing an effective team to carry out vision of the Membership Department.
- Knowledge/experience in coaching, planning and supervising a sports program.
- High skill level in organizing, planning, time management and implementation of administrative procedures.
- Certifications: CPR/AED and First Aid required in first 90 days of employment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Essential Functions:
- Lead Association Sports initiatives through active engagement with branch and association leadership to develop, implement and grow sports programs that are responsive to the needs of the community.
- Plan, develop, and oversee a comprehensive sports program portfolio in alignment with the YMCA's mission and community needs.
- Build and manage program budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations while maximizing program impact and reach.
- Writes, recommends and implements sports curriculum for all in-branch and off-site program locations.
- Recruit, train, and supervise a team of sports program staff that will be assigned to multiple program and branch locations. (Youth & Adult Sports, Physical Education Program, Afterschool Sports Program, Youth & Adult Sports Clinics, Summer Sports Camps)
- Lead, manage, and supervise volunteers for the association annually that are involved with all of our youth sports programs.
- Develop strategies to attract and retain participants for various sports programs, leagues, and events.
- Collaborate with community partners, schools, and local organizations to enhance program offerings and extend the YMCA's reach in the community.
