Description
The position is responsible for leading, training, and mentoring student-athletes in a specific sport. The coach develops strategies to improve athletic performance while fostering teamwork, discipline, and personal growth. They ensure that all practices, games and activities align with school policies and promote health and safety of students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and lead practices to improve individual and team performance while developing game plans tailored to opponents.
- Developing values of sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork and the ability to balance academics with athletics.
- Foster a positive team culture which is inclusive, respectful, goal oriented and can address and work through team conflicts.
- Maintain and coordinate practice, game, and transportation schedules, scores, records and evaluations.
- Enforce school and AIA rules for eligibility, safety protocols, changes to rules and regulations and player conduct.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, school staff, booster club, and community members.
- Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools.
Qualifications:
- A high school or GED is preferred.
- Current IVP fingerprint card.
- NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certificate.
- NFHS Concussion in Sports Certificate.
- Background as a player in the sport, either at the high school or collegiate level is preferred.
- Previous experience as an assistant or head coach at any level is preferred.
- Understanding of the sports rules, strategies, techniques, equipment, safety protocols and best practices.
