Description
Responsibilities:
- Work cooperatively with the administrative staff and coaching staff in the development of interscholastic athletic programs;
- Coordinate interscholastic athletic activities and foster a creative and supportive environment for interscholastic athletic development;
- Make recommendations concerning the entire scope of interscholastic athletic programs, with a specific focus on ensuring participant safety;
- Work with Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) and area athletic directors to enhance interscholastic athletic programs;
- Ensure athletic programs are operated in compliance with all MIAA rules and regulations;
- Supervise coaches and related athletic staff and make recommendations for the hiring and rehiring of coaches and related athletic staff;
- Establish and maintain positive public relations with athletes, parents, administration, and media;
- Schedule contests, officials, buses, game administrators, and police details; ensure coaches, athletes, and spectators comply with policies and regulations; manage ticket sales and gate access; monitor and manage crowd behavior, and ensure a safe environment at all athletic venues;
- Ensure the district owned bus is maintained in a clean and safe operating condition;
- Organize training of all coaches and related athletic staff in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid;
- Conduct pre-season meetings with coaches to review the Athletic Handbook and to review all pertinent operational procedures and conduct additional in-season meetings as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree;
- Experience in the administration of high school athletic programs strongly preferred;
- Effective interpersonal and leadership skills;
- Experience facilitating communication between divergent groups and in group decision making;
- Demonstrated success in the development, evaluation and implementation of a diverse range of initiatives and programs;
- Effective administrative and management skills, including the effective utilization of computers, technology, and information management tools (Excel, Google Workspace, online management systems, etc.);
- Effective communication skills (speaking and writing skills).
