Statement of Duties:
- Organizes and administers the overall program of interscholastic athletics for the district. Develop, organize, supervise and evaluate all phases of the athletic program (including intramurals) consistent with the schools’ and district’s Mission Statement and Philosophy and the department goals in conjunction with all MIAA rules and regulations relevant to interscholastic athletics.
- Function as liaison among coaches, administrators, teachers, students, parents and outside agencies. Maintain regular communication with counselors and teachers regarding academic progress and the needs of student athletes.
- Supports school-wide initiatives around the social and emotional health and well-being of students.
- Safeguard the welfare of all student athletes. Ensure the physical examination of all athletes prior to the beginning of each season inclusive of equitable access for all students.
- Certify academic eligibility.
- Adhere to the district hiring process for screening all applicants for coaching positions and recommending the hiring of coaches to the principal, ensuring the coaching reflect high personal and professional standards and that they reflect the standards listed above. Provides leadership in the selection and assignment of coaches. Follow all applicable union contracts, including but not limited to, the Massachusetts Educators Association contract.
- Supervise and evaluate coaches and provide documented coach evaluations for the personnel files to the district human resources office.
- Supervise high school and middle school coaches and athletic event staff hired by the district.
- Ensure that all coaches report scores efficiently and create a safe and supportive environment for ALL student-athletes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Coaching experience required.
- Experience in athletic management a plus.
- National Interscholastic Administrators (NIAA) certification or capability of obtaining one within the first two years’ of employment required.
- School-based experience with a minimum of 2-4 years administrative and coaching experience preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with a state athletic association and athletic scheduling technology system a plus.
- Strong communication skills required.
- Experience with unified sports a plus.
- Bilingual (Spanish or Portuguese) preferred.
