Athletic Director

The Athletic Director (AD) is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the high school’s athletic program. This includes ensuring the safety, well-being, and academic success of student-athletes, promoting sportsmanship and a positive athletic culture, and managing the day-to-day operations of all interscholastic athletic teams. The AD will collaborate with coaches, staff, parents, and the community to create an engaging and inclusive athletic environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sports Management, or a related field required.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• At least 3-5 years of experience in athletic administration or coaching at the high school or collegiate level.
• Strong knowledge of VHSL rules and regulations, athletic program management, and student-athlete development.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop coaches and student-athletes.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support athletic events and programs.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop, implement, and manage the high school’s athletic programs and activities in accordance with Virginia High School League (VHSL) guidelines.
• Oversee scheduling and coordination of all practices, games, and events.
• Ensure compliance with all VHSL and school district policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
• Promote student-athlete development in athletics and academics, ensuring eligibility requirements are met.
• Hire, train, and evaluate head and assistant coaches, providing mentorship and guidance in coaching practices and professional development.
• Conduct regular meetings with coaches to discuss program goals, player development, and logistics.
• Oversee the management of athletic facilities, including maintenance and usage scheduling.
