Description
The Athletic Director (AD) is responsible for the direction and management of the entire physical education and athletic department. The AD sets the tone for good sportsmanship, good health, and the spirit of teamwork. The Athletic Director must work in conjunction with the three Division Heads and oversee all athletic programs. Additionally, the director sees to it that all programs within the Athletic Department adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by the LHSAA. Additionally, this individual will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team and will be working with multiple coaches.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership for the entire athletic program, including regularly scheduled department-wide meetings.
- Establish a culture within the athletic department that ensures a sense of fairness and equality among all sports.
- Create and enforce proper health and safety procedures and protocols for student-athletes, including ensuring student-athletes have completed all necessary training and have been released through an annual physical to participate in athletic programs prior to the start of any season.
- Oversees the recruitment, supervision, professional development, and evaluation of the entire athletic staff.
- Ensure all coaches are performing their duties at the highest level of professionalism, including appropriate communication with other offices directed through the Athletic Director.
- Consult with division principals on matters of teacher/coach recruitment, scheduling conflicts, and division-specific logistics.
- Manages and controls funds available for the athletic program within the scope of the school's budget and reports to the Chief Financial Officer on expenditures, including the preparation and recommendation of an annual budget.
- Establishes supervision over and schedules the use of all athletic facilities as well as establishing the supervision to maintain all facilities.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in physical education, education administration, or sports management is required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Three to five years of experience of coaching experience and/or athletic administration in a school environment is required. Experience in an independent school preferred
- Ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, administrators, parents, alumni, and guests.
- Professional written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Experience with G Suite preferred.
- Ability to handle multiple, simultaneous, and complex tasks and projects efficiently and effectively without constant supervision.
