Description
JOB GOAL:
To oversee a comprehensive athletic program that promotes academic achievement and provides all secondary students an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sport, and the principles of fair play using the safest and most effective coaching and training methods.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in educational administration/instructional leadership or related field.
- Valid Alabama administrator certificate, preferred.
- A minimum of five (5) years of successful coaching or athletic director experience at the university or high school level.
- Demonstrated success in the administration or management of athletic programs.
- Experience managing and overseeing budgeting processes.
- Knowledge of the Alabama High School Athletic Association rules/procedures/policies, local Board policies, and state and federal laws about athletics and athletes..
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by the school system to drive a vehicle.
- Ability and willingness to obtain a CDL and school bus endorsement.
- Keen understanding of the proper development of young athletes to include the mental and physical growth and progression applicable to the athletes' pathway.
- Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prioritizes the safety and well-being of all athletic program participants.
- Collaborates with PRS administration to develop and administer athletic programs in alignment with PRS's mission and overall athletics program goals.
- Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with policy, regulation, law, and good practice.
- Responds to inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Implements board policies and advises the administration on legal matters related to athletics.
- Assesses long-term and short-term department needs through consultation with coaches, students, staff, and parents and develops policy recommendations for the Board's consideration and action.
- Evaluates extra-curricular athletic programs annually, engaging in long-range planning to ensure program success and development.
- Coordinates administrative tasks, including approving, scheduling, and communicating all athletic activities, setting pre-season practice dates, managing event calendars, coordinating National Signing Day, overseeing youth summer camps, and issuing timely announcements.
