Description
The High School Athletic Director is responsible for the overall administration, supervision, and development of the interscholastic athletic program. This includes ensuring compliance with all district, state, and league rules and regulations, managing budgets, hiring and evaluating coaches, scheduling events, overseeing facilities, and fostering a positive and inclusive environment for student-athletes, coaches, and fans.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Program Administration: Oversee all aspects of the interscholastic athletic program, including budgeting, scheduling, transportation, equipment management, and facility maintenance.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to all district, state (e.g., National Federation (NFHS), Arizona Interscholastic Administrators Association), and league rules and regulations governing eligibility, sportsmanship, and competition. Stay current on rule changes and interpretations. Attend all necessary association meetings.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the athletic department budget, including revenue generation, (e.g., gate receipts, sponsorships) expense control and projecting future cost of equipment, facilities, uniforms and personnel. Prepare and present budget reports as required.
- Personnel Management: Hire, supervise, evaluate, and mentor coaches and other athletic staff. Conduct regular performance reviews and address personnel issues as needed. Coordinate hiring of coaches with school administration and Human Resources.
- Scheduling: Develop and manage game schedules for all sports, coordinating with other schools, officials, and facilities. Arrange transportation for away games.
- Facility Management: Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of athletic facilities, ensuring safety and functionality. Coordinate facility usage and scheduling.
- Equipment Management: Develop and implement procedures for the purchase, inventory, maintenance, and storage of athletic equipment. Ensure equipment safety and compliance with regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of district, state, and league rules and regulations governing high school athletics.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and personnel effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, student-athletes, parents, and the community.
- Ability to work evenings and weekend hours including both in outdoor and indoor settings.
- Commitment to the academic and personal development of student-athletes.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
